"Saving Birds One Window at a Time" - Presentation by Great Salt Lake Audubon

21 July 2020 Published in News & Events

Here's a fantastic learning opportunity from our FRIENDS at Great Salt Lake Audubon - TONIGHT!

LogoJoin us on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom for a Great Salt Lake Audubon Birds ‘n Bites.

Jeanne Le Ber, Linda Johnson and Cooper Farr will present Saving Birds One Window at a Time. The program focuses on how to make your windows safe for birds. Bird-window collisions is a major cause of bird fatalities.  Making your windows visible to birds is an important step in helping birds avoid death. See-through glass and reflective glass that mirrors the environment are both lethal to birds. Scientific research has demonstrated that most bird-window collisions occur at residential and low-rise commercial buildings.  This is your opportunity to learn how to make your windows visible to birds and avoid birds “thunking” against your windows.

Why We Care

  • Several years ago I was enchanted by Alfred Lambourne’s romanticized paintings of the Great Salt Lake, so began my own quest to explore its islands and capture what I saw in quick, plein air, oil sketches.

I made many day-trips to Black Rock and spent a significant amount of time camping on Stansbury and Antelope Islands, climbing their trails and swimming in their bays. My paintings became my diary as I observed the changing light and shadow on the rocks and water. The brine flies and gnats often hovered over my shoulder anxious to immortalize themselves in the sticky colorful oil paint.
