Dear FRIENDS,
We are pleased to share an exciting update on funding for the protection and preservation of Great Salt Lake wetlands. The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) and the Great Salt Lake Watershed Enhancement Trust(GSLWET) announced the availability of up to $6.5 million in grant funding for eligible projects. This funding combines $1.5 million from the Trust, which previously awarded $8.5 million to eight projects in 2023, and an additional $5 million allocated by the Utah legislature to FFSL in 2024 specifically for Great Salt Lake wetland initiatives.
The grant application process is now open to a range of eligible applicants, including government entities, tribal governments, nonprofit organizations, and private entities partnering with public or nonprofit organizations. Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. MDT. The selection process will involve a Technical Review Committee and the Trust's Advisory Council, ensuring a thorough evaluation of proposed projects. This funding opportunity represents a significant step towards improving the health of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem, and FRIENDS is excited about the potential impact of these projects on our beloved Lake and its surrounding habitats.
