About the book:

A freak summer storm severs an island music festival in the middle of Utah's Great Salt Lake from the mainland. When one festival administrator, and then a second, is found dead, can curmudgeonly Daniel Jacobus solve the murders before his protégée, violinist Yumi Shinagawa, becomes the third victim?

About the author:

A former violinist with the Boston Symphony and associate concertmaster of the Utah Symphony, Elias has concertized on five continents, was a long-time faculty member of the University of Utah School of Music, and has been music director of the Vivaldi by Candlelight chamber orchestra series since 2004. Just released by Centaur Records is the first-ever recording of the Opus 1 sonatas by the Baroque violinist-composer Pietro Castrucci, which he recorded with local musicians Pamela Palmer-Jones and Noriko Kishi.

Gerald Elias was born on Long Island, attended Oberlin College and Conservatory, and graduated from Yale University and the Yale School of Music. After 30-plus years in Salt Lake City, he recently relocated to Seattle to be a hands-on grandpop, but maintains a vibrant concert career while continuing to expand his literary horizons.

His Daniel Jacobus mystery series takes place in the dark corners of the classical music world. Cloudy With a Chance of Murder is the seventh installment of the critically acclaimed series, for which Publishers Weekly wrote, "what gives this mystery its verve is the vibrant cast of characters and Jacobus’s indomitable personality and wry wit. Not just music lovers will enjoy spending time in his erudite company." Elias has also authored a political thriller, The Beethoven Sequence, a collection of short crime fiction, a children’s story, Maestro, the Potbellied Pig, and his short stories and essays have graced prestigious journals and anthologies. His essay, “War & Peace. And Music,” the subject of his TEDx2019SaltLakeCity performance, won first prize in creative nonfiction essay from the Utah Division of Arts & Museums and is included in his musical memoir, Symphonies & Scorpions.
