Dear Friends,
Some exciting news for us all as we enter what will hopefully be a fruitful water year. The United States Bureau of Reclamation has announced a $50 million gift to Great Salt Lake, which will fund a wide range of ongoing efforts implemented by the State over the past few years. Combined with an additional $50 million in previously appropriated funding from the state, this monumental contribution to restoration of the Great Salt Lake watershed will support many of the recent programs initiated by the state, ensuring they are effective and resilient. While a portion of this funding will go towards leasing and purchasing water rights through the Great Salt Lake Watershed Enhancement Trust (GSLWET), a portion of it will also go towards improving habitat and water delivery. We applaud this unprecedented support, and look forward to seeing the impacts it will have on the protection and preservation of Great Salt Lake.
