Notice: Upcoming Funding Opportunities from GSLWET & GSLCO

The Great Salt Lake Watershed Enhancement Trust and the Great Salt Lake Commissioner's Office are seeking proposals for Great Salt Lake related projects.

1) The Great Salt Lake Watershed Enhancement Trust (the Trust), co-managed by the National Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy, and the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, will be opening a new funding opportunity in mid July 2025. The funding, up to $2 million, will support efforts to protect and/or restore the wetlands and habitats anywhere within Great Salt Lake’s ecosystem to benefit the lake’s hydrology.

While application criteria will generally mirror the 2024 joint funding opportunities, the formal announcement will contain relevant details that applicants will need to prepare competitive application materials. Please learn about previously funded wetland projects here

2) The Office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner (GSLCO), in coordination with the Department of Natural Resources and the US Bureau of Reclamation, is implementing the Great Salt Lake Water Delivery Program.

The program is designed to promote the sustainability of the Great Salt Lake and is funded through a grant provided by the US Bureau of Reclamation. Up to $50 million in funding will be made available for three project categories centered around a focus on increasing inflows to the Great Salt Lake:

  • Voluntary Water Transactions
  • System Conservation Projects
  • Ecosystem and Habitat Projects

Funding for selected projects will be made available through a competitive grant process. GSLCO will issue Requests for Proposals in mid July 2025. Preference will be given to applications that yield the greatest hydrologic benefit to the lake. Additional details, materials, and application information will be provided alongside the Request for Proposals.

Office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner

The Office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner was established by the Utah Legislature in 2023 to develop and implement the Great Salt Lake Strategic Plan, a plan designed to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the Great Salt Lake, and to serve as the coordinating agency for efforts towards improving the lake.
