Post Issues-Forum Field Trip: Antelope Island State Park

Saturday, May 10, 2014
8:30 AM-1:30 PM
Cost: $15 per person (covers lunch and entrance fees)

Join us for a family-friendly half-day excursion to Antelope Island State Park, where we will be accompanied by local experts and naturalists as we explore the ecology and geology of the island.

We’ll coordinate carpools from the Salt Lake City area and will meet at 8:30AM outside the entrance to Antelope Island State Park. Once we are over the causeway, attendees will gather at the Visitor Center where we will have a short presentation about the island. After we finish exploring the Visitor Center we will move down to the marina where you will have a choice of three activities including a guided hike, a guided kayak tour, or a trip on the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources research boat (limit 8). You may bring your own boats onto the island, or rent them from Gonzo at Antelope Island State Park marina (current rates are $20/2 hrs for a kayak rental).
After our outings we will all gather at 12:30PM for a group picnic at Bridger Bay (food will be provided).
We are limiting the number of attendees to 30. There is only room for 8 on the research boat and if winds are over 10mph they cannot take anyone out. If this happens one of their biologists will be there to talk about the program and answer any questions.

Please select your first choice of outing (hike, kayak, or research boat) on your registration form and we will work to get everyone on the outing they want. We will add names to the list in the order the registrations were received – so don’t delay!

Antelope Island State Park is located approximately 41 miles north of Salt Lake City. Take Exit 332 off Interstate 15, then drive west on Antelope Drive to the park entrance gate.

Please note: This event may be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Contact Emily Gaines (emilygaines1@yahoo.com) for more information and to reserve a kayak rental.
